Slipping Through My Fingers Earrings
Mimi Sanada
Traditional Japanese paper, 14K gold-filled
3.75"h x 0.75"w x 0.75"d
2026

The song captures the bittersweet regret of a grown daughter. This piece mirrors my sandwich caregiving—watching children grow and my mother’s mind decline. The earrings’ parts symbolize time and decline (complexity to holes) and a neuron itself.

"Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute"
Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA

Get to Know the Artist:
Mimi is the owner and maker of Mimi’s Origamis, a jewelry company that specializes in transforming traditional Japanese paper into wearable origami pieces that are lightweight, elegant, and unique. She is Japanese-American and grew up in NYC, where origami helped her stay connected to her Japanese roots and provided comfort during significant life transitions. During early motherhood, she found herself longing for its familiarity, which inspired her to create origami jewelry that celebrates her heritage.

Each Mimi's Origamis piece is hand-folded from traditional Japanese washi paper, painted with a protective glaze, and paired with hypoallergenic 14K gold-filled metals. Her origami jewelry is available in local Austin gift shops, as well as museum gift shops and cultural institutions across the US.
