The last week of August 2017 will be infamous to Texans & beyond for the horror of Hurricane Harvey. Viewing the destructive force of the hurricane via TV and social media as it attacked the coastal areas of Tx was appalling. I can be a bit obsessed with the weather radar app & I was horrified how HH (Hurricane Harvey) stayed over the greater Houston area..….I even did a soft reset on my Iphone 6+ to make sure what I was viewing was true!!!!
On Tuesday, the 29th of August, I received an email from Shelly Floyd (@shellysmodernart) who is participating in one of our current exhibitions, Abstract Absolutely. Shelly Floyd is an immensely talented artist and one of the kindest & nicest people I’ve ever met!!! Shelly offered to donate one of her artworks for a raffle to raise funds for hurricane relief. In my typical “Woo Hoo YES Let’s do this” attitude, I rapidly started emailing artists that had exhibited at Art for the People and/or are part of our Artisan Market. Within 24 hours the Hurricane Harvey Relief Raffle had grown to 40+ artists; artists were also contacting us through Instagram & Facebook to donate. As of the 14th of September, 80 artists had donated 121 pieces of artwork. Austin Artists RULE!!!!!!!!!!
