80 Austin Artists donate artwork to Hurricane Harvey Relief Raffle

The last week of August 2017 will be infamous to Texans & beyond for the horror of Hurricane Harvey. Viewing the destructive force of the hurricane via TV and social media as it attacked the coastal areas of Tx was appalling. I can be a bit obsessed with the weather radar app & I was horrified how HH (Hurricane Harvey) stayed over the greater Houston area..….I even did a soft reset on my Iphone 6+ to make sure what I was viewing was true!!!!

On Tuesday, the 29th of August, I received an email from Shelly Floyd (@shellysmodernart) who is participating in one of our current exhibitions, Abstract Absolutely. Shelly Floyd is an immensely talented artist and one of the kindest & nicest people I’ve ever met!!! Shelly offered to donate one of her artworks for a raffle to raise funds for hurricane relief. In my typical “Woo Hoo YES Let’s do this” attitude, I rapidly started emailing artists that had exhibited at Art for the People and/or are part of our Artisan Market. Within 24 hours the Hurricane Harvey Relief Raffle had grown to 40+ artists; artists were also contacting us through Instagram & Facebook to donate. As of the 14th of September, 80 artists had donated 121 pieces of artwork. Austin Artists RULE!!!!!!!!!!

One of the easiest choices was selecting the nonprofits who will receive all the monies raised through the raffle….. Austin Pets Alive (@austinpetsalive) and Central Texas Food Bank (@ctxfoodbank) will be receiving 100% of the proceeds raised by the Hurricane Harvey Relief Art Raffle!!!! Austin Pets Alive & the Central Tx Food Bank are saving lives and making a difference during the recovery from Hurricane Harvey. Deanna Serra (owner of Art for the People) is matching raffle sales (up to $2,000) through the ABE Foundation…..each $10 raffle ticket turns into a $20 donation.

The Hurricane Harvey Relief Raffle will continue til 12 Noon on Wednesday, the 4th of October!!! What can we all do??? Please buy 1 or more $10 raffle ticket(s) to assist these stellar nonprofits during the lengthy recovery of our Texas coastline. Here is the direct link to purchase raffle tickets…
